Photo Books VS Prints and Digital Files

Although my computer is full of photos I still prefer prints and order them from time to time for myself to keep those memories safe – on paper. After a big loss 3 years ago when I lost about 80 GB of photos and videos and all other files inclusive  (data of about 5 years)- I promised to myself always to make some best pictures of our family life every season. You know, after that computer crash I was so upset, I couldn’t even take any photos at all for some time. I keep my dead hard drive still, here with me, because I have hope :)- MAYBE someday somehow someone will restore those files for me. I think, I still cannot let go the fact that they are lost.. all those precious moments when we were waiting for our first daughter, her first steps, words, our trips to beautiful Lithuania’s cities and villages and other sweet memories… I believe in miracles, maybe someday I’ll get everything back 😉 So for now I try not to do the same mistake again. CDs? Nope. After a while they stop working or the new programs can’t read them, so you have to rewrite them from time to time.  At the moment I’m using external hard drive, hopefully it will last for long. As I mentioned – I order prints regularly but my favorite ones are Photo Books. They are for some special occasions, photo shoots or just simply for autumn memories for example. You don’t need an album to put all the photos in, usually they are boring – all the same format, you don’t need another boring stuff – sorting, choosing, mixing them and best of all – no photo will get lost in a photo book. As I’m the computer geek person I don’t mind doing everything on screen 🙂 The difficult part is to choose a company, software where you want your photo book being made. I spent so much time on this and for now I found out that the biggest freedom of choice designing a photo book at a value price I get at Jessops. Well, I tried only “budget” ones (Vista print, Tru print, Bonus print) because I can’t spend hundreds yet 🙂  and I was pleased with the quality and communication, because I had some issues with one of my orders but they were resolved quickly. Well, you can find cheaper options but believe me, the software and designing options are way too poor when you compare. It’s a pity I don’t get any discount for promoting them but at the moment I order photo books only there and here is the EXAMPLE PHOTO BOOK of what you get. I really like this kind of book and I try to encourage people to order a book like this because it will last ages and it stands out on a shelf, you can even hang it if you want, and it looks and feels amazing! Not mentioning the feeling when you open it 😉 I just love it. We had this shoot last year and I made this photo book as a gift for Auguste so the price will be suppressed 🙂 I made a copy for myself so I could show it to others. As time goes on, I see thing differently and now I would change some things but this is the process of improvement and it’s lovely. Practice makes perfect 😉

The results are here! Photos of the Photo Blitz Tournament

Finally, the day has come when all the photos of all photographers were revealed and put on a golden plate for judgement. If you missed my post about the Photo Blitz and what it was all about – you can read about it here. Two weeks – that’s all I had to choose and prepare my photos for the contest and actually it was not enough, I had more visions but … I’ll work on them later 😉 Introducing my photos I would like to say that I was inspired by  Brooke Shaden, when I watched her Fine Art Portraits workshop on Creative Live some time ago.  For sure, I’m into something more than photography and only time and lack of skills stops my imagination to be expressed on-screen or wall, yet 🙂 but I will reach for more.  So, even before taking part in Photo Blitz I knew that I will try “Fine Art” style  and I am happy with my very first results. It’s my first time for God’s sake! I’m excited! 😀 Finally, I was able to take the reality  and create something  that is only in my head and most of all – share it with somebody else. My husband was the first judge and he said he had some creeps at the beginning 🙂 Yes! That’s what I wanted! It took hours and hours of my time but I have no regrets because I had so much fun making these photos.  Couple of them are my favorite and I will definitely print them because you have to zoom them to see some fine details 😉 And yes! I like details! They all mean something, and I like to hide things so they are not so obvious, so take your time and maybe you’ll find something undiscovered 😉

You can VOTE for my photos by clicking LIKE under my all album HERE but first you’ll have to  join the Photo Blitz group in order to do so. The last day to vote is 28 June. There will be prizes for the best of the bests but as one lady posted – the participation in this event is the prize itself! And I agree 😉

OR even more important to me – you can watch my photos at my Facebook page and leave me a comment of what you think of any photo you like or don’t like and why. But what I am interested most is – WHAT DO YOU FEEL, when you look at it? Let me and others know! I would appreciate it so much! And this is only a glimpse of all of them:

Tricky photo shoots in Central London

I never thought it can be so difficult to shoot in Central London where you see so many tourists with their cameras everyday. Our photo course team was asked to stop taking pics by the security guys several times.. just because.. we looked like professional photographers .. because.. we had reflectors with us! Lol! You can have a camera for thousands of pounds and you can shoot easily but when you take out a reflector for 10 quid – this is serious man.. You go to a different place, somewhere quiet and after a while a security guy pops out of nowhere and says the same story – it is not allowed …common! That was strange. However we had some nice pics taken. Thanks to our teacher Tomas Brazinskas, models Giedre and Estela and our team, that was a great Saturday afternoon 😉 The first model we got was a nice girl Giedre and these are some moments from her photo shoot.

Man’s portrait

That was more than a year ago and my first photo session where model was a man. I am not a pro here but it was very interesting and amazing to see how many characters you can find in one look.  So, m8s, does anyone want to try it? 🙂  I promise, it’s not as scary as it might seem 😉

Sandra ❤

Another lucky winner of free mini photo shoot! – Sandra, and her handsome young gentleman – Joris 🙂 and a very smart one as a matter of fact! He must be a basketball fan because having a bauble in his hand he didn’t take long and found a basket – my laundry rack 😀 That was amazing .. After I did Sandra a hairdo and a make up we got out in a park and spend chilly but lovely afternoon together

Mystics in my photos of smoke

Well, I found a  link on Twitter how to photograph smoke two days ago. I read it and thought – yep, looks nice, and closed it 🙂 This morning I came to the post office and my eye was caught up with a sale of incense sticks, 50p…ok..I got to try it! And I did. Well, my light source was quite … poor 😛 but anyway I’ve never tried photographing smoke before and it was fun. I could barely breath in this small room on the floor but the smell was really nice and let me experiment. I used the highest ISO so there was much noise and I am not a pro of this thing and that was just for fun but when I went through the pics on my lap I was quite amazed, I saw faces and animals everywhere 🙂 a bit creepy? Well, I have to say that I’ve never taken a picture of St.Mary myself arising from the smoke..that was the first thought when I saw it :O I called my husband and told him quietly- I’ve just taken a picture of St.Mary..or an angel..he laughed of course but not for too long. Well, I’m still smiling 🙂
