Daughters of the forest

I came back…from an unbelievable holidays.. They started on the 31st ¬†of July and were full of joy, excitement, new ideas and experience. I came back with a full pack of photos.. I’ll savor them and ¬†bring them to life bit by bit until Christmas comes, I think ūüôā So, the journey began in Norway – a country of beautiful nature, mountains and crystal clear lakes.. that was the first impression. ¬†I had pleasure to visit my hubby’s sister and her family there. Daughters of the forest – I’d like to call them.. And what an amazing hair – God’s gift! I’m jealous ūüôā Follow my blog (or like my page on Facebook) to see ¬†what happened in a lake there next.

Embodiment of femininity

I am really blessed to meet so many interesting and beautiful people in my way of life. ¬†Most of them – I would never thought I would have friendships with and this is amazing. I am so grateful for that! One of them is my soul mate I met a couple of years ago – Zita. She’s a charismatic woman, ¬†a little more than 20 years wiser than me, ¬†sometimes a chatterbox, ¬†sometimes a loving friend, ¬†always smiling and infecting with her laugh ūüėÄ The last time I visited her in Cork (Ireland) I thought I would gain a six pack just being with her ūüôā No kidding, I was laughing almost all 4 days.. ¬†As¬†you can expect from a Gemini – she’s a master of being everywhere at the same time as well! ¬†And I wish I could look so amazing when I’ll be her age. I took one picture describing our friendship and personalities (me on the left of course ūüėÄ ):¬†

and of course I couldn’t resist to capture her great personality and femininity¬†on my camera. Thanks for being my friend¬†‚̧

PHOTO BLITZ – World’s First, One-of-a-kind Event

300Today I had the most incredible¬†opportunity¬†to take part in this event. I will try to describe it from my point of view. ¬†PHOTO BLITZ was a unique event for photographers, their¬†assistants, ¬†models, make-up artists and stylists to CREATE something that you cannot express with words. It was really mind blowing: you had to be quick, you had to¬†challenge¬†yourself in all ways. I was so unorganized that my assistant got lost on her way to the event, I got a last-minute nanny for my kids (oh, thank you Kathleen!), I thought I’d have a car but had to use public transport, so we were late.. all my fault.. but lucky for us we were not the only ones and started with everybody else. What happened after the first whistle – is a pure HISTORY now. I doubt that you would be able to experience more photography in one day. Ever. So, it took place in Hainault Forest, London (UK). It was organized by Brazzi Photostudio. A HUGE thanks to them ūüėČ I cannot imagine I could ever miss such an¬†opportunity. ¬†I believe it’s just the¬†beginning. ¬†Their ideas are awesome and I like the fact that they are open to everybody – not just a¬†funky¬†photographer with a stunning portfolio but also for someone like me – just dreaming about a professional photography and surely lacking a bit of a confidence (and practice of course!). AND for someone who’s maybe just started or is not sure about the start :). I appreciate smooth and benevolent communication¬†from¬†organizers’¬†side. ¬†Ok. So, imagine, you stand in a line with other photographers, the models stand all in one line in front of you, you listen carefully for the instructions, 10¬†seconds¬†to get ready, and – whistle – GO! You grab the model in front of you and run! Or go.. ūüėÄ You pick a place, maybe a tree, a road, a creek, bushes – and start shooting. My¬†assistant¬†Auguste was sooo helpful. She helped me with light, ¬†hair, other things. That was her second¬†time as an¬†assistant¬†and she is getting everything already. I’m so glad she was there with me ‚ô•¬†. So you have ONLY 8 minutes before you¬†hear¬†the first whistle. Then you have a minute to finish your shoot and a minute to come back. Most of the time I was running back because I just couldn’t get enough of the ideas and it was a¬†pity¬†to leave them that way but I would get a penalty point if I was late. 10 minutes for one model. And you know? It’s amazing what you can do! It’s really like brainstorming. I had more ideas during all this event then I had in the past half a year, I think. Now I see visions for my other shoots. I know what I would do better, what else ¬†I would use, where I would go, how I would interact with the model. It’s just amazing! There were around 20 models and I knew only one of them so it was really¬†challenging. Firstly because you don’t have time to pre-communicate, to warm-up, to get ready.. you have to ACT here and now! Of course, the models were so helpful and most of them didn’t mind to kneel, to lay down or even grab a spiky branch, there were even falls..but ended up happily, thanks God. They dressed up as they wanted, so you didn’t have a say here – you had to take what you had and create something right away in 10 minutes time. Then you come back to where you started and get another model, and the whistle goes again.. During a 4 hour event there were only 30 minutes, divided into two breaks and a minute or so between every shoot. I had some things that I wanted to use in my shoots but I didn’t have a vision until I saw some models, they were just right for my ideas. I’m not afraid of a result – I know – I did my best and even more. I had to remember myself that it is the process that matters and it is really fun! I don’t care about the prizes. No prize will be worth what I brought home – memories, practice, some more confidence, new and future friends and I believe – a stack of awesome pics. ¬†However, I really pushed myself out of my comfort zone,¬†especially¬†when I had to SAY what I wanted and how I wanted it to a person I’ve just met. I counted 14 different models who were there in front of my camera, 2 of them were men. ¬†I admit, I have hard times with men model ūüėÄ and why am I so small after all…? Most of the women where also much higher then me. I saw someone using the ladder – this is a great idea if you have the power to carry it along. ¬†So after 4 hours I was¬†exhausted,¬† sweaty, out of breath, with some bruises on my legs, arms, BUT HAPPY. I never dreamed about something like that and I encourage everybody – step out of your comfort zone, start doing something you would never do, something you were told you would never do or something you could never imagine you CAN do. This is CREATION, just like raising a child – you do your best and you never know the result, and if your Higher Power ¬†gave you mind and soul not for this purpose -THEN WHAT FOR?

Stay tuned for any updates and photos from this tournament.

Sincerely yours, Ausra Marcinkus Photography.

Sea of blossoms

Today we had this wonderful chance to get to the same place I was a week ago. I was so amazed by this little park that I wanted to come back here with my camera and a beautiful girl. And here we are. Blossoms all around, pink and white … you reach a branch and they start to snow all over you! This is a must-to experience minimum once in your life. Here are couple of moments from this photo session. Keep an eye on this blog for more coming soon ūüėČ

When I was in Scotland

That’s how I started this February. This trip was not very well planed because there was not enough time for that but as always –¬†spontaneity does the best. Me and my friend Loreta were invited to visit Trochrague guest house in Girvan (Scotland) and I was jumping out of ¬†joy! I am so grateful brother Patrick invited us there. We had only a weekend. That appeared to be toooo short to get enough of that place ūüôā¬†Beginning¬†with an amazing room and view to the grotto in the garden to every corner of the house, cozy chapel and gushing peace. But I couldn’t just sit around, there were so many things waiting for us – I thought. And it was true. The very first afternoon we walked to the forest and when we passed it,¬†surprisingly¬†we saw the sea miles away but the most¬†surprising¬†thing was this HUGE “cupcake” in the middle of it! Ailsa Craig island – Loreta’s love at first sight! We just had to see it from the shore so we went back to our “castle” and decided to go to the town ūüôā For me it was a real castle, inside out, though it is called a “guest house”. So we walked to the ¬†town center (later I found out it was 2.5 miles away:)) and got back when it was dark, not so late, at 6 o’clock, but the door was closed. We thought we were in trouble but luckily after some time after knocking on the door and windows – we were let in :). ¬†All that evening we spent sitting in our chairs by the window and radiator, all wrapped up in blankets, ¬†talking about everything and nothing.
The next morning we were offered to look around the city but we had already explored it yesterday ūüôā and instead of going the same route again (Girvan is a small but very nice town) we climbed the highest hill we saw there… Bill, who was a very helpful and polite person, drove us to the town, and just pointed his finger to his head laughing when we asked to take us to the foot of the hill ūüôā Well, if it will be too hard – we’ll go back – we thought. Nothing to loose. It took us about an hour to climb up and it was not so bad, just that it was wet and our feet didn’t look¬†attractive¬†after all. We had several short brakes. Every time we admired the view left behind and when we got to the top, it was just unbelievable. By the way, all the sheep at the foot of the hill were afraid of us and were running to the top, in fact, showing us the way. I bet they didn’t expect we would go to the top too ūüôā and when we got there, they didn’t have where to go, just stood and watched every move. ¬†I tried to ¬†talk to them in¬†Scottish accent but I guess I was not good at it ūüėÄ So, we spent some time sitting, laying, praying, admiring the view with the Ailsa Craig in the front and this would always be an amazing time to remember.
It took less time to go down of course but it was even damper because all the frost was gone. It was 1 p.m. and the weather was awesome. We returned to our castle happy and ready for dinner ūüôā The rest of the day we spend talking to our friend brother Ricardas who came from Kilbarchan (near Glasgow). It was so nice to see him after three years and I’m so grateful he made this trip possible. And in the evening we met some very nice and warm people from Glasgow who stayed at Trochrague as well. Some tea, karaoke and dance wrapped this wonderful day up and it was difficult for me to fall asleep with all the impressions¬†spinning¬†around in my head ūüôā And the next day we had to leave ūüė¶ But I’m sure I’ll be back here soon. ¬†I hope you’ll feel at least a tiny bit of this wonderful time we spent in Girvan.

Curly Red Beauty

Not the warmest morning in London.. but minute after minute and there it is – a new day! Shiny dew and a taste of fog, an amazing young lady with a bit of attitude and a really nice time spent together. Funny.. she predicted my reflector would fall down into water, yep..twice ūüėÄ And I thought I would find leaves, it meant to be the autumn’s shoot but.. couldn’t find much ūüôā ¬†It’s early yet.¬†Anyway, I just love my model’s hair, eyes and a smile¬†‚ô• They can light up every foggy day. Thank you!

Model: Auguste.¬†Make-up: by me.¬†Hair: by mother nature and a little bit by me ūüôā¬†Time: early Saturday morning .
